Enrollment Procedure To enroll you must meet class requirements if applicable. Fill out a contact form to get started. You must be enrolled no later than two weeks prior to the course start date. Cost does not include books. Boys Town does not offer job placement assistance.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Emergency Medical Technician

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Emergency Medical Technician course introduces Emergency Medical Care. Modules of training will include medical-legal, roles and responsibilities of the EMT, documentation and communication, human anatomy, medical terminology, lifting and moving, Airway Management Basic and Advanced, Patient Assessment, medical and trauma. Medical Emergencies, treatment, and use of assisted medications and IV maintenance, bleeding control and shock, trauma emergencies, use of immobilization devices, Obstetrical emergencies, childbirth, pediatrics and children’s emergencies, ambulance operations, hazardous materials, mass casualty and triage.

Emergency Medical Technician Online Refresher

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course reviews material previously learned by the participant. The intent of this course is to maintain a provider’s competence in knowledge and skill performance and is designed to meet the hours to renew State and National certification.

Initial/Renewal CPR for Healthcare Providers

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will teach the participant how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and foreign-body airway obstruction. The student will learn to recognize heart attack and stroke symptoms in adults and breathing difficulty in children. This course teaches the skills needed to respond to the emergencies identified. The participant will learn the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator, and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction.

EMT IV

Course Description: This course will train the participant on the reasoning why to stat an intravenous access along with identifying infusion related complications, causes and appropriate treatment. Demonstrating the correct IV flow rate. Identifying methods of infection control related to IV therapy. Understanding of the components of accurate and complete documentation of IV procedures and complications. Demonstrating IV procedures.

Initial/Renewal Advanced Life Support

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will train/ review with the participant how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, stroke, and hypothermic adult patient. The student will review rhythm recognition and how to use the cardiac monitor in the various modes of electrical therapy. The participant will review the signs and symptoms along with the management algorithm associated with the individual life-threatening rhythm. The advanced provider will review and practice the various forms of advanced airway management along with a review of CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator, and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction.

Initial/Renewal Pediatric Advanced Life Support

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will train/ review with the participant how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest in the pediatric patient. The student will review rhythm recognition and how to use the heart monitor in the various modes of electrical therapy in the pediatric mode. The student will review the signs and symptoms along with the management associated with pediatric life-threatening rhythms. The advanced provider will review and practice the various forms of advanced airway management along with a review of CPR for victims of all pediatric patients.

RN/LPN to EMT

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 40-hour course is designed for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses to bridge over to become an Emergency Medical Technician.

EMS Instructor

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 40-hour class is designed for EMS providers who want to take on the roll of being an EMS Instructor. The participants will learn Roles and responsibilities, Learning styles. EMS Education for instructors, Evaluations, classroom settings, Communication., Motivation, Discipline, and remediation, as well as Cultural Awareness.

2hr Continuing Education Training Session

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 2-hour session is designed for healthcare providers at any level to refresh and renew knowledge base and hands on practical skills.
